Liesl Muehlhauser Obituary

Liesl Muehlhauser passed away unexpectedly and will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the many communities she was part of throughout her life.

Liesl was driven, intelligent, and deeply committed to building a life defined by purpose and achievement. She believed strongly in hard work and self-determination, and she pursued her goals with focus, discipline, and intensity. She held herself to high standards and was rarely satisfied with anything less than her best.

Professionally, Liesl’s path reflected her perseverance and ambition. She began her academic journey by earning her GED, went on to complete law school at the University of Notre Dame, and built a successful legal career at a large firm. Prior to becoming an attorney, Liesl was a licensed therapist, a role that reflected her care for others and her interest in understanding people. She continued to renew her therapy license for several years while practicing law.

Athletically, Liesl was an accomplished and dedicated runner who approached the sport with the same intensity she brought to the rest of her life. She qualified for and ran the Boston Marathon, ran a personal best marathon time of 2:53, and held a course record at the Antarctic Ice Marathon in December 2024. At the local level, Liesl won numerous road races and took pride not only in her own performances, but also in sharing the sport with those close to her. She loved being part of a strong and visible running community.

Above all, Liesl cared deeply about doing things well and about the people in her life. She formed strong bonds, showed up for those she loved, and left a lasting impression through her loyalty, determination, and presence.

Liesl is survived by her mother, Kristina Muehlhauser, her father, Darrel Muehlhauser, Sr., her brother, Darrel Muehlhauser Jr., and her sister, Harmony Klein, her grandmother, Ardyth Trecartin, as well as extended family and many close friends.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 8, at 3:00 PM in Bainbridge, Ohio. Additional opportunities to remember Liesl may be shared at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Liesl’s memory may consider making a donation to NPR, an organization she valued, at npr.org/donations/support.
