Margaret Ann (Ebeling) Matkovic, 93, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021. Margaret was born on January 15, 1928, to Milton and Mabel Ebeling in Owatonna, Minnesota, where she grew up on the family farm and developed a strong work ethic. Her siblings fondly called her “Muggs”. She graduated from Owatonna High School in 1946. After high school, Margaret worked in various positions for companies in Owatonna and California before settling in Indianapolis. In 1951, she married Joseph V. Matkovic, and they were married for over 50 years until his death.

Margaret began her career with Indiana Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator. She held a variety of roles over a span of 28 years. In 1982, Margaret retired from Indiana Bell as a trainer of new phone systems within local businesses. She also worked part-time in a family business. After retirement, Margaret was involved with her community and served as an officer on her Homeowners Association board.

Margaret’s hobbies included sewing and crocheting. She was quite the seamstress, making most of her children’s clothes. After retirement, Margaret became an avid golfer and profoundly enjoyed the sport throughout her golden years. She played in several leagues earning many trophies and awards. In addition, Margaret loved working around her home whether it was painting a room or tending to her flowers in the garden. She looked forward to completing crossword puzzles on a daily basis. In addition, she treasured spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. The family loved working on puzzles with her and playing card games like Euchre, Skip-Bo, and Spite and Malice. Over the years, she enjoyed traveling to visit family members, vacationing together, and joking around.
