Margaret Lucy Roland, 92, of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023. She was born on June 4, 1931, in Steelville, Missouri, to the late Albert and Ruth (Keeton) Brodhacker.
Margaret got her first job as a teller out of school with American Fletcher National Bank. She joined the Treasurers and Ticket Sellers Union Local 751 I.A.T.S.E. and enjoyed a long career selling tickets anywhere they sent her. She sold tickets for Market Square arena from the day they opened to the day they closed. Margaret worked the credentials gate for many years at the Indianapolis 500, a job she loved.
Margaret loved to travel and would go anywhere. She road a motorcycle all the way to Kennebunkport, Maine and took her sister-in-law all the way to Alaska to visit friends. She loved playing the slot machines in Las Vegas and loved to shop at the Good Will or the “G.W.” as she called it. She had an adventurous spirit and was known to have a good time; she will truly be missed.
Survivors include, her children, Margaret Ann (Jonathan) Wenzlaff, David L (Allene) Riordan, Doody (Jennifer) VanArsdale and Rick (Diane) Britton; ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Francis Roland; brothers, Joe and Bill Brodhacker; and sons, Dannye and Ronald Britton.
Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, July 12 from 11 to 1 p.m. in Lauck &Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis, with a service celebrating her life to follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Minor officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
