Margaret "Peggy" Joan (Oakes) Jones

Margaret “Peggy” Joan Jones, age 80, of Indianapolis, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021.  She was born September 13, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late Fredrick W. and Rosalind E. (Starr) Oakes.

Peggy was a media specialist with the Metropolitan School District of Warren Township for 15+ years, retiring in 2001.  She was also the Oasis Coordinator for the school district.

She was a longtime member of Old Bethel United Methodist Church, but most recently, had been attending services at Indian Creek Christian Church (The Creek).  She served as one of the head ushers with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra/Hilbert Circle Theatre for several years.  Peggy enjoyed bird watching, spending time with her family and friends and the opportunity to go out to eat with them.  She took pleasure working with children, assisting them with their reading.

Peggy is survived by her sons, Scott (Jenny) Jones and Randy (Amy) Jones, both of Indianapolis; granddaughters, Katelyn, Emily, Zoe and Sabrina Jones and great-granddaughter, Brynn Wicks.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton L. Jones, whom she married August 16, 1964 in Indianapolis and he passed away August 29, 2014.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church - 8540 East 16th Street, Indianapolis.  In consideration of others, it is required that face masks be worn while attending the Celebration of Life Services.  On Saturday, June 5 2021, after a private family ceremony in the Chapel at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Madison, Indiana, Peggy and Clint's cremated remains were inurned in the Columbarium on the grounds of the cemetery.
