Marion Albert Baker, age 83, of Pendleton, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, in Ascension/St. Vincent Hospital of Anderson. He was born on February 15, 1942, in Indianapolis, to the late Paul E. and Mary Josephine (Miller) Baker. Marion married the love of his life, Vedia Carolyn (McClain) Baker, on February 20, 1960; she survives.
Marion graduated from George Washington High School in 1960 and was proud to be on the first undefeated football team in 1959. He went on to attend Marion College and became a printer and lithographer, a trade he dearly loved. Marion had a talent for touching up pictures and could make changes to them long before the use of computers in the trade. He printed several publications for Cursillo and a book for the Armenian Priests.
Marion enjoyed coaching the youth at St. Bernadette Catholic School; his passion was coaching football. He valued education and would often remind his children, “they can’t take an education away from you.” He loved to fish, golf with family and friends, and was a very competitive bowler; he showed “no mercy” on the bowling lanes. He created many special memories at family reunions by hosting his infamous hog roasts.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Vedia Baker; children, Duane Albert Baker, Vivien Kay (Bruce) Haines, Therese Anne (Carl) Deubelbeiss and Brenda Kathleen (Peter) Krimmer; daughter-in-law, Donna Gayle Baker; siblings, Hilda Sparks, Doyle (Becky) Baker, Janie Mattingly and Constance Hughes; grandchildren, Monique, Mindy, Cassandra, Adora, Matthew, Brittany, Mason, Benjamin, Rebecca, Natasha, Anthony, Randall and Bradley; and many great-grandchildren.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents, Paul E. and Mary J. Baker; son, John Damien Baker; and siblings, Patricia Louise Baker, Paul Baker, Vesta Fields, Robert Baker, Marilyn Campfield, Lowell Baker and Edward Baker.
