Marion Purvis, Jr. Obituary

Marion Glen Wilson Purvis Junior died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on January 9, 2020 at the age of 63. Dearly beloved son, brother, uncle, dad, grand and great grandpa.

Marion was born on February 5, 1956 in Indianapolis and raised by Ruth Purvis and the late Marion Purvis. He is survived by his cherished siblings Roy Purvis (Debbie Purvis), Kim Faulkner (Rick Faulkner), Jerry Purvis (Linda Purvis), Joy Cooper (Tim Cooper) and Gary Purvis (Terri Purvis); loving wife Debra Kay Purvis (Scroggham); children Christi Horn, Michael Heyob, Michael Scroggham, Crystal Purvis, Amanda Scroggham (Laura Holloway); grandchildren Brittany Hummel (Gary Hummel Jr.), Chelsea and Taylor Perkins, Noah Horn, Christopher Peyton and Zack Purvis; great-grandchildren Ashen Perkins, Arianna Anderson, Benjamin Smith and Uriel Hummel. He was preceded in death by his siblings Billy and Lisa Purvis and step-son Mark Heyob.

Throughout his life, he spent his time in the military, also graduating from Wood High School, enjoying life to its fullest, vacationing with family, meeting many people to love and settling down to marry his wife that he greatly adored. They worked, while also remodeling their turn of the century home. Marion led a Scout troop to which Mike Scroggham joined and achieved Eagle status all while he and his wife were an active member of a bowling league.

“GW”... “JR”... “Snake”, ”G” - Those names and others were as familiar to him as his given name; he lived his time to the fullest. He loved sports even as a child, but as an adult enjoyed watching all left turns at the track or back to back losses from his favorite sports franchises. Staying loyal to all his favorite teams, known by all to be an avid fan of Nascar, #3 - “The Intimidator” - D.Earnhardt, Indycar, football, “GO COLTS!”, basketball, “GO HOOSIERS!”

Before retiring from Capital Clutch, downtown Indianapolis after 30+ years, working in the mechanical/automotive industry, he made lifelong friends along the way. He very much lived life as a journey, even at times when we just don’t know the destination. He now has arrived to his final destination and will always live through those he loved.

His humor and joyfulness lives on in those who loved him. His legacy will thrive as will his strength, forever.

The family would like to thank all of those who have joined us in person and remotely to express their sorrows and condolences.
