Mary L. Gallagher, 94, of Indianapolis (lived across from Garfield Park for 67 years), passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021. She was born on May 12, 1927 in Indianapolis to the late Edward J. and Clara E. (Schoenig) Kirch. Mary married the love of her life, Edward Francis Gallagher, on June 18, 1949.
She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, class of 1945 and during her career worked for the Board of Health, Ryker Dental Depot and the Indianapolis Convention Center prior to retirement. Mary and Ed were life-long members of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church until its closure by the archdiocese. She was an amazing seamstress and enjoyed knitting; she made many of her daughters’ clothes as well as donated countless hats and socks to the homeless.
Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Edward Gallagher; children, Michael (Paula Hardesty) Gallagher, Sharon (Marc) Ancelet, Carol Gallagher, Patrick (Melanie) Gallagher and Brian (Joel) Gallagher; six granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Blanche Polovich, Ed Kirch, Jeanette Brooks and Irvin Kirch.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral Home, 1458 S. Meridian Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 16 at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church; prayers will be said at the funeral home prior to Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the St. Paul Hermitage. Envelopes will be provided by the funeral home.
