Mary Ellen (McHugh) Reed

Mary Ellen McHugh Reed, 76, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 27, 2024.  She was born on October 17, 1947, in Indianapolis, to the late Patrick F. and Marjorie F. (Butcher) McHugh.

Mary Ellen grew up in the Assumption Catholic Church Parish, later becoming a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and then Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  She graduated from Sacred Heart High School, class of 1965 and went on to work in the insurance industry.  Mary Ellen was devoted to her faith, praying the rosary daily, and her family.  She will be truly missed.

Survivors include her son, Grant H. “Skip” Reed, III.; granddaughter, Jordan T. (Casey)Lang; grandchildren, Maverick and Weston Lang; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of over 50 years, Grant H. Reed, Jr.; daughter, Ellen Louise Reed; and siblings, Patrick F. McHugh, Jr., Marjorie A. McHugh, Thomas J. McHugh and Michael J. McHugh, Sr. 

Family and friends will gather on Thursday, February 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 2 at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1530 Union St., with prayers being said at the funeral home prior to Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
