Mary Lundgaard Schmidt
Born in Escanaba, Michigan
Died 7-9-2020, Greenwood, Indiana
Upon graduating from Escanaba High School, Mary attended Ferry Hall Junior College for Girls in Lake Forrest, Illinois. After graduation she worked as secretary to the President of the American College of Surgeons in Chicago.
Mary met her beloved Edward Schmidt, Navy submarine officer and they married February of 1945.
Mary (Mimi to family and friends) is preceded in death by her parents Grace and August, and four brothers: Neal, Fred, Louis and Robert.
Survived by their daughter Karen and husband Charles Wilson of Indianapolis, granddaughter Tonya, and great grandchildren Michael, Jacqueline and Joseph Okuniewicz, Rochester Hills, Michigan.
Also surviving are son-in-law Charles Wilson’s daughter Ann and Mike Wilchzynski and their daughters Emily and Erica Wilczynski; daughter Mary & Tony Schmid and daughter Megan and Brent Horsefield; and daughter Kathy Wilson.
Many nieces, nephews, grand nieces/nephews survive. Many thanks to Mary’s devoted, dedicated, caregiver and friend Barbara Forth.
A private family celebration of life will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, American Lung Association. Contributions may also be made to any of the organizations where she volunteered; Perry Township Senior Citizens Services, Franklin Township Historical Society, Acton United Methodist Church and St. Francis Hospital. She was past President of the Wives Auxiliary of WWII Submarine Veterans.
