MaryAnn (Rector) Sparrow

MaryAnn (Rector) Sparrow, 82, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at her Greenwood residence.  She was born on Sunday, May 21, 1939, in Clarksdale, Mississippi to the late James A. and Willie Evelyn (Fuqua) Rector. 

A homemaker, MaryAnn was a member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Indianapolis.  She was a Gold Star Mother, a member of TAPS.  In 1981, she was the founder of Adoption Support Group in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  She was dedicated to children and finding good homes for them. 

MaryAnn is survived by her husband, Walter H. Sparrow, Jr., whom she married Sunday, May 18, 1980, in Virginia Beach, Virginia; her children, Walter H. Sparrow, III, Daniel Michael-Paul Sparrow, Nicholas A. Sparrow, Thomas S. Sparrow, James T. K. Sparrow, Dale Lynn Sparrow, Randy Shawn Sparrow, Tina Marie Goffred Searle, Angie G. Goffred-Martin, Shannon L. Sparrow, Jacqueline Bansi Keira Catherine Sparrow, Melissa D. Sparrow, Quincy M. Sparrow, Masada L. Sparrow, Brianna M. Sparrow and Cara A. Sparrow; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, MaryAnn was preceded in death by sons, LCpl Johnathon K. Goffred and William “Billy" Goffred; daughters, Bansi Alexandria Sparrow and Keisa M. Sparrow; brothers, James A., Thomas and Edgar A. Rector; sister, Evelyn P. Rector. 

The family has suggested in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 2601 East Thompson Road  Indianapolis, Indiana  46227.
