In Loving Memory of Melanie Ann (Nichalson) Gallagher
June 8, 1963 – August 25, 2025
Melanie Ann Gallagher, née Nichalson, age 62, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at home on August 25, 2025. Born on June 8, 1963, in Franklin, Indiana, she was the cherished daughter of the late Clayton L. and Evelyn (Johnson) Nichalson.
Mel’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, laughter, and creativity. She graduated from Whiteland Community High School in 1981, where she also pursued vocational studies at Central Nine Career Center. Her professional journey spanned three decades as a dedicated Workplace Specialist with Business Furniture, retiring in 2020. That same year, she earned her Master Gardener Certification through the Purdue Extension Master Gardener Program, a reflection of her deep love for nature.
On September 17, 1994, Mel married her soulmate, Patrick Kevin Gallagher, in a backyard ceremony that perfectly captured their shared joy and simplicity. Together, they embraced life’s adventures, especially music concerts, travel, and time spent in their garden oasis.
Mel was known for her gentle spirit, infectious laughter, and artistic soul. She found joy in gardening, landscaping, yard art, painting, animals, and music. Her kindness and humor left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by her devoted husband, Patrick Gallagher; her brothers Terry (Vina), Randy (Debbie), and Tim Nichalson; many beloved nieces and nephews; and their sweet dog, Sophie.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, September 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral Home, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis IN 46225.
In honor of Mel’s compassionate heart, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society of Indianapolis. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
The Gallagher family extends heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Franciscan Hospice for their exceptional care and kindness.
