Michael H. Dryer, 79, of Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022. He was born on October 22, 1942 in St. Louis, MO, to the late Harry E. and Louise M. (Hibbeler) Dryer. Michael married the love of his life, Kathleen M. (Mader) Dryer, on April 8, 1967; she survives.
Michael graduated from Cathedral High School, class of 1960. He then served in the United States Air Force where he attended USAF Technical School and was a Missile Facilities Specialist. Michael spent his post military career in the HVAC industry and attended Purdue University and Marian College. He most recently retired from Johnson Controls, Inc. as a Performance Contracting Engineer but had also worked for Browning Management, BMW Constructors, Inc, and Barber-Colman Co.
Michael was a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). He was a devout Catholic and active member of St. Christopher Church serving as a Lector, Sponsor Couple with his wife for Marriage Preparation, Communion Minister, volunteer for St Vincent de Paul and Race Parking for the youth group. Michael was also active in the Chapel Glen neighborhood homeowners association.
Michael truly loved people and had a servant’s heart. He enjoyed meeting new people, connecting with people, and offering his words of wisdom. Above all he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Kathleen Dryer; daughters, Christina Struver, Michele Hernly (Kevin) and Stephanie Smith (Dan); grandchildren, Bryce, Seth (fiancé Ellen) and Megan Hernly and Alyssa Hawkins. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons-in-law, John Struver and Joseph Hawkins; and siblings, Lucy Leighton, Pete Dryer and Linda Soel.
Family and friends will gather on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 9 to 11 a.m. in St. Christopher Catholic Church, 5301 W. 16th St., Indianapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. following visitation in the church with Rev. Paul M. Shikany presiding. Burial will take place in Westridge Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to the St. Vincent de Paul Society; envelopes will be provided at the church.
