Nora May (Stevason) Cunningham

Nora May Cunningham, 85, of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. She was born on February 3, 1938, in Indianapolis to the late Orville and Martha (Freije) Stevason. Nora married the love of her life, John James Cunningham, on September 3, 1960, in St. Catherine Catholic Church; he preceded her in death.

Nora was a graduate of Emmerich Manual High School, class of 1955. She was an avid sports fan who loved the Cubs and Purdue. Nora enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren when they were active in sports or other school events. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends and had a strong belief in an elevated level of academics for her children and grandchildren. She will be missed by her loving family.

Survivors include her three sons, Chad (Ann), Jeff (Melissa) and Todd Cunningham; sister, Mary Ellen O’Donnell; and grandchildren, Lucy, Betsy, Caleb, Charlie, Giuliana, Daisy, Rian, Noah, Calvin and Kyle. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, John Cunningham; parents; in-laws, Edward and Brigid Cunningham; and many relatives from the Stevason and Cunningham families.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 11 at 12 noon in St. Roch Catholic Church, 3600 S. Pennsylvania St., with a Eulogy at 11:50 a.m. prior to Mass. Visitation will also be in the church prior to Mass from 10 a.m. until Eulogy at 11:50 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions have been suggested to the American Diabetes Foundation, American Cancer Society or St. Roch Catholic Church. Envelopes will be provided at the church.
