Pastor Walter C. Willett, age 74, of Indianapolis, passed from this life on Saturday, August 27, 2022. He was born on September 6, 1947, in Mount Pleasant, Michigan to the late Lewis Glen Warner and Lucille Irene (Davis) Warner. After his parents' death he was adopted by Melvin Atherton and Bertha Ella (Davis) Willett.
Walter married the love of his life, Karen Kay (Wetzler) Willett, on October 16, 1971; she preceded him in death in 2016 as did his parents and siblings, Stephan Warner and Marilyn Willett Heavilin.
Pastor Willett was the pastor of Grace Baptist Church of Indianapolis and former professor at Crossroads Bible College where he served as the Chairman of the Department of Biblical Counseling and Local Church Education. He was a student of life and the Scriptures and known as an approved workman who could rightly divide the Word of Truth. He held four master's degrees, M.A., Conservative Baptist Theological Seminary, 1973; M. Div., Anderson School of Theology, 1976; M.A.R. Anderson School of Theology, 1976; M.S. Purdue University, 1987. In addition, he held a Level 2 Counseling Certificate from the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors. Pastor Willett was a Missionary in Liberia West Africa and was the founder of Crossroads Discipleship Ministries, Inc. He pastored for more than 21 years in CO, IL, IN and MI.
Survivors include his son, Joshua D. "J.D." Willett, and his wife, Beth, of Auburn, Indiana; wife, Agnes Willett and stepchildren (Joshua, Jonathan, Matthew, Alvin, Mathylin, Eve, and Deborah) of Liberia, West Aftrica; and sister, Judy Bray; and three grandchildren, Aubrey, Erin and Jase.
Pastor Willett's life was marked by humble service to the Lord and a love for people. He was known for his godly wisdom and the ability to share it with those he encountered in a practical and life-changing way. His favorite adage was, "Only one life twill soon be past. Only what's done for Christ will last."
