Patricia Kay (Monahan) Clausson

Patricia Kay (Monahan) Clausson, 79, of Indianapolis, passed away in the presence of family on the evening of Sunday, July 31, 2022 at IU Methodist Hospital.

Patricia was raised on her family’s farm near Fairmount, Indiana.  Soon after graduating from Fairmount High School, Patricia moved to Indianapolis, where she lived for the remainder of her life.

In 1964, Patricia met Bert Clausson, and they married in 1965 and remained so for the next 57 years until her passing. Together they enjoyed travel, bike-riding, and a great love of their community. Patricia’s primary occupation through the 1970s-80s was caring for her four children, as well as various bookkeeping jobs throughout this time.  She was also an active volunteer at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church and Central Catholic School, which all four children attended. In her 50s, Patricia pursued a bachelor's degree in accounting, which she completed at the age of 60, graduating from the University of Indianapolis.  During this time, she was employed in the accounting department of Ivy Tech Community College, from which she retired after twenty years.

In retirement, Patricia continued to pursue her passion for learning.  She was an avid reader with a particular interest in wellness and spirituality.  Patricia had a very active social life, enjoying time with friends and neighbors in the Garfield Park neighborhood, especially participating in the book club, walking in the park, and Euchre club.  She enjoyed attending numerous high school class reunions and kept in touch with family and friends from Fairmount.

Selflessness and service to others were the hallmarks of Patricia’s life — never putting herself first and always thinking of the needs and comfort of others.  She sought the good in all people. In addition to raising four children, she spent many years providing elder care for her mother. She radiated a cheerfulness, vitality, and warmth that endeared her to many.

Patricia is preceded in death by father Fred Monahan, mother Reba (Corn) Monahan, sister Marcia (Monahan) Coulter, and brother Tom Monahan.  She is survived by husband Bert, daughter Kimberly Pradhan (Dev Pradhan), sons Earl (Sarah Malcolm), Stephen (Rosanna Sabini), and David, as well as grandchildren Anand, Jay, Shaan, Mila, and Luca. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 on Friday, August 5 at Lauck & Veldhof Funeral Services.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Saturday, August 6 at 11:00.
