Patricia “Kay” (Littrell) Sauer

Patricia “Kay” Sauer, 80, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at home with her son, John, by her side on Monday, January 26, 2026. She was born February 12, 1945, in Greencastle, Indiana, to the late Lawrence Littrell and Susan Elizabeth (Pierce) Littrell.

Kay graduated from Greencastle High School in 1963 and spent most of her career at Indiana Bell, where she made many lifelong friends.

She is survived by her son, John Sauer; her sisters, Ruth Norman, Linda Sutherland, and Rita Paitson; brothers‑in‑law Leon Sims and Biff Paitson; sister‑in‑law Cathy (Phil) Campbell; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” Michael Sauer; and siblings Lawrence Paul, Leroy, Gladys Kruse, Edna Sims, Mary Constantino, Lola Carter, and Opal Marie Cross.

Kay cherished her family, friends, and neighbors. She found joy in tending her garden, gathering with loved ones “down home” in Greencastle, caring for her pets and the neighborhood “critters,” and cheering on the Pacers and the Fever.

Graveside services and burial will be held Tuesday, February 3 at 1 p.m. at Little Walnut Cemetery in Greencastle (Putnam County). All are welcome. Please dress casually and warm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you feed the hungry—both people and animals. Throughout her 80 years, Kay offered food and kindness to the homeless, to stray cats and dogs, and even to the birds, raccoons, and possums. Donations to organizations such as St. Vincent de Paul or the Humane Society are also meaningful ways to honor her, but so is offering a warm meal to someone in need or a bowl of food to a neighborhood animal.
