Ruth Ann (Lyon) Snyder

Ruth Ann Snyder, 95, of Beech Grove, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on March 10, 1929, in Beech Grove, to the late Warren and Lucille (Williams) Lyon.  Ruth married the love of her life, James Paul Snyder, on July 19, 1952; he preceded her in death on December 8, 2021. 

Early in her career, Ruth was a flight attendant working for TWA Airlines.  Back then, when you got married, they transferred you to the reservations desk, as they didn’t want married women traveling.  She also worked for D.A. Lubricants before starting a family with Jim and raising three children as a stay-at-home mom.   After the children were raised, Ruth went back to work at Lazarus, and later Macy’s, where she later retired from. 

Ruth loved taking cruises and traveling with her husband Jim.  They took many cruises with their Msgr. James M. Downey 3660 Knights of Columbus friends, of which Ruth’s husband, Jim, was a Past Grand Knight; many good friendships and memories were made.  Ruth also enjoyed the family trips back to Loogootee, Indiana, in the summers and in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She will be remembered most for being a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. 

Survivors include her children, Thomas (Kristi) Snyder, Christopher (Nancy) Snyder and Mary (Scottie) DeArmond; grandchildren, Ryan (Amy) DeArmond, Katie (Gregory) Girard, Joe (Abby Screen) DeArmond; Beau (Jamie) Ridings, and Brittany (Tyler) Seal; great-grandchildren, Brantley Seal, Daniel, Lyla and Molly DeArmond and Evelyn Girard; and close family friend, Fr. Jim Wilmoth. 

Family and friend will gather on Saturday, November 9 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in Envive Healthcare of Beech Grove (former St. Paul Hermitage), 501 N. 17th Ave., Beech Grove.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow with Fr. James Wilmoth presiding.  Inurnment will take place on a later date.
