Samuel Lee Bowen

Samuel Lee Bowen, 71, of Indianapolis, passed away on June 22, 2026, at the Castleton Health Care Center after an extended illness. He was born on September 30, 1954, in Indianapolis to the late John Russell and Betty Lou (Rich) Bowen.

Sam was a man of remarkable skill and natural intelligence. He loved working on vehicles and had a gift for electrical and plumbing work—able to fix, rewire, or rebuild almost anything placed in front of him. Despite having limited formal education, he possessed a sharp mind and an impressive ability to learn, especially when it came to self‑development and his health. His independence was a defining part of who he was, and his strength—both physical and personal—was evident to everyone who knew him.

Above all, Sam was a devoted father. He showed his love not through many words, but through steady, dependable action. Whether he was repairing something, offering help, or simply showing up when needed, his care was expressed in the quiet, consistent ways that spoke louder than anything he could have said.

Sam is survived by his son, Samuel S. Bowen; his daughter, Michelle Bowen; his brothers, Timothy, John “Junior”, and Charlie Bowen; and his sister, Sharon Bowen.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Daniel and Mark Bowen.

Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, June 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis. A service will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Danny Thomas officiating. Burial will take place in Round Hill Cemetery, near his beloved parents.
