Sandra Asimakopoulos, 76, Indianapolis, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. She was born on July 26, 1946, in Nashua, New Hampshire to the late George and Helen (Balam) Asimakopoulos.
Sandy was a graduate of Nashua High School, class of 1964, before receiving her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1970 at Keene State College where she majored in Physical Education. She then taught physical education at Manchester Memorial High School in New Hampshire before relocating to Florida, where she later retired as a Case Manager at The Center for Independent Living of Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, providing services for adults with disabilities.
In 1972, Sandy played an active role in the passing of Title IX, of the education amendments, into Federal Law. She was a die-hard fan of the New England Patriots and enjoyed cooking Greek cuisine, “shelling” on the beaches of southwest Florida and loved all animals, especially those of the feline nature.
She was preceded in death by her parents and spouse, Linda “Lynn” Ritter.
Friends will gather on Wednesday, May 3 from 11 to 2 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis. Inurnment will follow visitation in Calvary Cemetery with a brief committal service.
