Stephen Denzel Smith

Stephen Denzel Smith, 71, of Indianapolis, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.  Born December 2, 1949 in Indianapolis, Stephen was the son of the late William Oscar Smith and Inez Gertrude Hamilton Smith Arthur.

Stephen served briefly in the United States Navy in 1967.  For 33 years, he has worked as a fabricator with Alexandria Industries.

Stephen was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, the Capitol City Conservation Club where he enjoyed fishing.  Even though he was a workaholic, he found the time to go to the casino and the pastime of cooking.  Stephen loved his pets, which included Skeeter, Buttercup, Bandit and Lucy.

Stephen is survived by his wife, Marilyn M. McCutcheon Smith, whom he married on May 24, 1997; children, Stephen D. Smith Jr., Christopher M. Smith, Kevin (Tina) Cleary, Clifford (Jackie) Cleary, Stephanie I. Smith, Barb (Chris) Childs and Tammy Cleary; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2021 in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 South Meridian Street, where family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2021.  Burial will follow services at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
