Steven Blake Obituary

Steven Carl Blake,57, passed away January 20,2023 in Indianapolis. He was born to the late Benjamin Carl and Betty Jo (Acton) Blake on May 19, 1965. Although that makes it sound like he didn’t get very far, his family travelled extensively when he was a child. He liked to tell stories about the many Hollywood actors he met when the family was in California, for example.
Steve eventually ended up back in Indianapolis, making a living in construction. He never worked out at a gym, but physical labor made him very strong. He would frequently help friends and family move. Steve could pack more belongings in the back of a pickup truck than anyone else could imagine. His strength also meant that he rarely lost a fight-which meant that he didn’t try very hard to avoid fights. That lack of fear was put to good use when Steve’s sister was threatened by her then husband. Steve rescued his sister and her young children. Despite being shot at, they all escaped unharmed.
Steve’s wilder days were brought to an end by multiple injuries and health problems. He still helped friends with repair work and construction projects when he was able. Steve also worked at several restaurants over the years. He loved to cook-especially on the grill-for friends and family. He also enjoyed doing yard work like mowing and building new garden beds. Steve was good at it, too. He could divide a huge clump of day lilies into dozens of intact plants in a matter of minutes.
When socializing with friends, Steve enjoyed shooting pool and throwing darts. He also like to entertain people and make them laugh. Now and then, he would astonish people with clever card tricks or his amazing Louis Armstrong impression at karaoke. Steve enjoyed all sorts of music. Some favorites were George Strait, Tim McGraw and Travis Tritt. Although he did not get to attend many Colts games, Steve was a big fan. He loved getting Colts gear for birthdays or Christmas.
Despite enjoying many indoor activities, Steve always preferred the outdoors. Camping and fishing were favorite pastimes. He hated being stuck in a confined space. He loved road trips, riding bikes or just walking. He would much rather be telling stories and drinking Coors Light around a campfire than doing anything inside. To respect his preferences, his ashes will be scattered around a few of his favorite spots. He won’t be boxed in.
