Steven Roger Roark, 73, of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 20, 1949, in Washington, Indiana to the late Nelson Leroy Roark and Helen Ruth (Overton) Roark. He married the love of his life, Charlotte M. (Perkins) Roark, on March 5, 1971, and together they raised their two sons and Charlotte’s younger siblings.
Steve served in the United States Marine Corp after graduating from George Washington High School in 1968. He also attended Ivy Tech and the North Carolina Vocational School working as a welder until retirement. Steve loved sports, especially I.U. and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Beech Grove Loyal Order of Moose #1883 and the American Legion Post #276. He loved music which was his happy place and never missed a Friday night poker game with the Emerys and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Charlotte M. Roark; sons, Steven A. Roark and Jaycen R. (Jamie) Roark; sister, Deanna (Mick) Rooney; brother-in-law, Dennis (Trish) Perkins and sister-in-law, Marilyn Bogard; grandchildren, Tailer Miller, Tyler (Kaylee) Roark, Preston Brownell and Kadence Bishop; great-granddaughter, Jane Roark; and good friends, Danny and Irene Emery. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Gary Roark; great-granddaughter, Max Miller; and good friends, Robert and Anita “Jo” Keller.
Family and friends will gather on Friday, January 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral Home, 1458 S. Meridian St., with a service celebrating his life at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood, with full military honors.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
