Verna Rose (Merida) Brinson, passed away peacefully at home on July 23, 2025, in Fishers, Indiana. She was 88 years old.
Verna was born on October 9, 1936, in Bloomington, Indiana to the late Aurand and Ruth Merida. After graduating from high school in 1954, she enrolled at Indiana University in Bloomington where she met the love of her life, Philip Brinson. Along the way, Verna received both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in education from IU. She went on to become a talented grade school teacher in Elkhart, Indiana for 38 years. During her career, Verna was highly respected by her fellow educators for her passion and dedication to her profession. And she was much loved by her students, receiving many cards and letters over the years from former students telling her she was their favorite teacher.
Known for her kind smile and giving nature, Verna had a heart of gold and truly cared about people. She was extremely empathetic and always ready to help anyone in need. A woman of strong faith and strong character, Verna routinely put others before herself. She deeply loved her family, and nothing brought her greater joy than being around her children and grandchildren and hearing every detail of their lives.
