Obituary

William E. Niehaus, 80, of Indianapolis, passed away early Thursday, September 8, 2023.  He was born on February 8, 1943 in Indianapolis to the late Edward and Virginia (Weber) Niehaus.

Bill proudly served in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam in 1967-1968. He served Honorably and was proud to represent the United States of America. His specialty was serving as an Ontos Crewman with Second Marine Division.

Bill was actively involved in regularly visiting his family and friends on the South side with shared stories, pictures, laughter and meals. Bill was philanthropic and regularly gave back to the community in countless ways. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1962 and attended Catholic school K-12. He was a lifelong Union brick mason who labored in construction of many noteworthy buildings in downtown Indianapolis. He also was involved in countless construction projects for friends and family. His favorite construction project was with his father in 1956 when they built a lake cabin in Nineveh, IN. 

Bill’s wife of 49 years, Carolyn L. Niehaus (Morgan) preceded him in Eternal rest November 2019. He was a loving caregiver for her throughout their marriage.

Survivors include his children, Dolly Niehaus and William M. Niehaus (Jessica); sister, Marilyn Schuster; brother, Dennis Niehaus (Roxie) and grandchildren, Lucas, Lola and Libby Niehaus. Bill also has many surviving cousins, nieces, nephews and loyal friends. 

Family and friends will gather on Friday, September 15, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian Street. A Christian Celebration of Life will be held for Bill on Friday, September 15 at 1:00 p.m. at Lauck & Veldhof Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Indianapolis Metropolitan Military Honor Guard will be present for the service.

Memorial contributions have been suggested to Donate Life Indiana or the Disabled American Veterans, envelopes will be provided by the funeral home.
