Shirley Elizabeth Shazer

Shirley Elizabeth Shazer, 82, of Indianapolis, passed away on August 15, 2016.  She was born on February 11, 1934 to the late Dr. Delton Charles and Margaret (Good) Shazer in Greensburg, IN.  

Shirley received her Bachelor of Science degree from DePauw University and was a member of Soroptomist International.  She was a longtime member of Broadway United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir and was a member of the United Methodist Women.  Prior to retirement, Shirley was a lead histotechnologist at the I.U. School of Dentistry and performed immunohistochemical staining to determine the origin of various tumors. 

She is survived by her nephew, Thomas D. Shazer Jr. (Judith), of Ann Arbor, MI; nieces, Anne Reynolds (William) of Ypsilanti, MI and Janet Stumm of Massachusetts; great-nieces and nephews, Emily and Rachel Shazer, John, Mary, Tom and Stephen Reynolds;  and sister-in-law, Ann Shazer of Greensburg. She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas D. Shazer, Sr.  

Family and friends will gather Tuesday, August 23, 2016 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Broadway United Methodist Church, 609 E. 29th Street Indianapolis, IN 46205, with the service to follow there at 3 p.m., Dr. Rachel Metheny will officiate.  Burial will take place on August 24th in the South Park Cemetery, Greensburg, IN at 12 noon with Rev. Michael Layne officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Broadway United Methodist Church or Soroptomist International.  Arrangements and care were entrusted to Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services.
