Donald Lee Wilson was born in Green County, Indiana on October 4th, 1931.  On a productive farm, his parents, Orval & Louella Wilson, raised Don, brothers, Dales and Delbert along with their sister Thelma.  At a young age (16) Don yearned for the city life and made his way to Indianapolis.  He served our country in the United States Marine Corp and was stationed in San Diego, CA.  He was trained as a clerk typist and then acquired his real estate broker’s license. 

After marrying Betty Lucille Groce, Don put his brokers training to good use in purchasing their first business – a greenhouse.  That was a perfect segue into their next entrepreneurial adventure.  Their green thumbs became invaluable as they brought to life the gardens of Rustic Gardens Miniature Golf Course and Driving Range.  More than flowers flourished as they made a success of their new business. 

A true legacy also grew as they employed neighborhood youth.  Several of whom became unofficially adopted children!  Betty was the first of many golf students Don taught.  He often joked that he taught her too well.  Don rooted for the Indianapolis Pacers, but he and Betty were hard-core Colts fans; they cheered them on for several years from their season seats. 

Don is survived by three nieces, Shirley Sullivan, Beverly Koenig and Martha Shrum, along with their families, as well as his “adopted” Rustic Gardens family.  Mr. Donald Lee Wilson will be sorely missed and forever loved.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Indianapolis Humane Society “in memory of” both Don & Betty Wilson. 

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 1st, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the Dishman Cemetery in Springville, Indiana.
